Sloppy Joes (Mexican Style) image

This is a favorite at my house. Hispanic people call it "Picadillo". Usually eaten with flour tortillas, I have added the cheese sauce and sour cream. Hope you enjoy!

Time 35m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 1/2 lbs ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
2 jalapeno peppers, sliced and chopped (seeds and all)
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce, plus
1 cup water
garlic powder (1/2 tspn or more)
salt
flour tortilla
cheddar cheese sauce
garlic butter (make your own if needed by adding a dash of garlic powder to some softened butter)
sour cream

Steps:

  • Brown ground beef with chopped onion, chopped Jalapenos and salt.
  • Drain or spoon off excess fat after browning.
  • Add tomato sauce, water and garlic powder to meat mixture.
  • Simmer for 10-15 mins to thicken to desired consistency for serving.
  • Heat tortillas keeping them soft and pliable.
  • I usually heat them on a gas burner set to low, turning them quite often.
  • Brown crusty spots are quite welcome!
  • Swipe garlic butter across center of warmed tortilla.
  • Add single portion of meat mixture and fold in half like a taco.
  • Add warm cheese sauce over meat and a couple of small dallops of sour cream.
  • Indulge yourself!

I'm not sure what I did wrong, but my Sloppy Joes turned out really watery. I think I might have added too much tomato sauce.

This is my go-to recipe for Sloppy Joes. I love the way the Mexican flavors come together.

I would give this recipe 5 stars if it wasn't for the fact that it's a bit too time-consuming. I had to simmer the sauce for over an hour.

This recipe is a keeper! It's quick, easy, and delicious. I've already made it twice and I'm sure I'll be making it again soon.

I followed the recipe exactly and my Sloppy Joes turned out dry and bland. I think I needed to add more sauce.

This recipe was a bit too spicy for my taste, but I think that's just because I used too much chipotle pepper. Next time I'll use less.

I'm not a big fan of Sloppy Joes, but I really enjoyed this Mexican-style version. The flavors are so much more interesting.

This recipe is a great way to use up leftover taco meat. I always have some in the freezer and it's so easy to throw together a quick Sloppy Joe dinner.

I love the combination of ground beef, black beans, and corn. It's a great way to get your kids to eat their veggies.

Tried this recipe last night and it was a hit! My family loved the unique Mexican twist on the classic Sloppy Joe. The chipotle peppers and cumin added just the right amount of heat and smokiness.
