Sour Cream Cookies image

I used to be a nanny for two children when i was just about 18. The woman I worked for made these every year for Christmas. When I got out on my own I asked her for the recipe and I have been making them every since! They are a delicious soft cookie with a light flavor and a sweet buttery icing on top!

Number Of Ingredients 17

1/2 cups crisco
1 1/2 c sugar
2 eggs
1 cup sour cream
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 3/4 c flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
BUTTERY FROSTING
1 c powdered sugar
1/2 cup melted butter
1 1/4 tsp vanilla
enough milk or water to get correct consistancy
a fellow jap member and friend pat duran suggests adding a tsp of karo corn syrup to the frosting to give it that shiny bakery look! i am def giving it a try!
TO DECORATE
festive sprinkles and food coloring

Steps:

  • 1. Mix together sugar and shortening, then add eggs one at a time stirring after each egg.
  • 2. Add vanilla and sour cream
  • 3. Now stir in your dry ingredients.
  • 4. Refrigerate dough for about an hour to make it easier to work with.
  • 5. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet and bake in 375 degree preheated oven for 8-10 minutes
  • 6. cool slightly and remove from cookie sheet.
  • 7. For icing: Mix sugar butter and vanilla together. Add milk until desired consistancy. Frost each cookie and then top with sprinkles or colored sugar
