Southern Fried Apples image

If you love fried apples just like the ones at Cracker Barrel, you've hit the jackpot. These are just like grandma makes. Tasty southern cooking at it's best and OHHH SOOOO GOOOOOD!!!

Number Of Ingredients 7

6 tart apples (like granny smith). cored and skinned.
1 tsp lemon juice
1/4 c bacon drippings or can substitute butter
1/4 c brown sugar, firmly packed
1/8 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1 dash(es) nutmeg

Steps:

  • 1. In a large skillet, melt bacon dripping or butter. Pour cut up bits of apples evenly over skillet bottom. Sprinkle lemon juice over them, then brown sugar, then salt. Cover and cook over low heat for 15 minutes until apples are tender a juicy. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg.
