This is adapted from a recipe I found in the local newspaper. It's adapted to fit my low-sodium requirements and spiced up to add flavor!

Categories     Turkey

Number Of Ingredients 14

3-4 Tbsp olive oil
1 large yellow onion, diced
1 1/2 lb ground turkey
1 tsp black pepper
1 Tbsp minced garlic
1-2 tsp prepared horseradish
1 c no salt added ketchup
1 can(s) tomato paste, small
1/4 c mustard (spicy or specialty, preferred)
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (or more, if you like)
1/8 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (or more, if you like)
1 Tbsp brown sugar
1 Tbsp red wine vinegar
burger or slider buns

Steps:

  • 1. In a large skillet, sauté onion and garlic in olive oil, about 3-4 minutes. Add ground turkey and black pepper. Cook for 7-8 minutes, breaking up turkey into small pieces.
  • 2. Add ketchup, tomato paste, mustard, cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes, brown sugar, and horseradish, mixing well. Reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes.
  • 3. Add red wine vinegar. Serve on burger or slider buns. Makes enough for about four full-size sandwiches or eight sliders.

These sloppy joes were just okay. The sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste, and the turkey was a bit dry. I would probably not make these again.

I'm not a big fan of turkey, but these sloppy joes were delicious! The sauce was tangy and sweet, and the turkey was cooked perfectly. I would definitely recommend this recipe to anyone looking for a quick and easy weeknight meal.

These sloppy joes were easy to make and very tasty. I used ground chicken instead of turkey and they were still delicious. I will definitely be making these again.
