My family loves this recipe. Of course, I adjust the chili powder according to who is eating it. (Don't put too much in if there are little ones.) You can use rice or noodles and cheese on top, if you wish. Have fun with it and adjust to your family likes. Sometime, I'll throw in corn but this is the basic recipe. Texas...

Time 1h15m

Number Of Ingredients 9

3 large onions, sliced
1 red or green pepper, minced
3 Tbsp cooking oil
1 lb ground chuck
1 large can tomatoes, squashed or diced tomatoes
3/4 c uncooked rice (can use 2 cups uncooked noodles)
chili powder (to taste) - no more than 1 tsp.
2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper

Steps:

  • 1. Saute onions, green or red pepper in cooking oil until tender. Remove from pan and set aside.
  • 2. Add ground chuck to pan and brown. Important: Drain pan of all fat. (You can see in my last picture where I needed to drain more in this step.)
  • 3. Add rice (or noodles), chili powder, salt and pepper, and set aside onions and pepper to pan with ground chuck.
  • 4. Stir mixture well.
  • 5. Pour mixture into greased baking dish.
  • 6. Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
  • 7. Remove cover and bake additional 15 minutes.
  • 8. Enjoy!

These hash connies were a bit too dry for my taste. I think I would add some more butter or oil next time.

I'm not a big fan of hash connies, but I thought these were pretty good. The crispy edges were my favorite part.

I've made hash connies before, but this recipe is by far the best. The addition of the Worcestershire sauce and garlic powder really takes them to the next level.

The hash connies turned out great! They were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I used a blend of ground beef and sausage, and it was delicious.
