BAKED FISH AU GRATIN image

While not much of a seafood lover, I have been known to eat fish if you disguise the fishy taste enough. This recipe, found in an old cookbook, seems to pass the test. Photo: www.mothersdelite.com.au

Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 lb frozen fish fillets (cod, ocean perch, halibut or flounder)
2 Tbsp fine cracker crumbs
1 can(s) (14 oz.) stewed tomatoes
2 Tbsp chopped onion
1/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp black pepper
1 Tbsp butter
1/4 to 1/2 c cheddar cheese, shredded

Steps:

  • 1. Thaw fillets as directed on package.
  • 2. Grease a 1-qt. shallow baking dish and sprinkle with the cracker crumbs. Lay the fillets on top of crumbs.
  • 3. In a medium bowl, combine tomatoes, onion, salt and pepper. Pour over fillets. Dot with butter and cheese.
  • 4. Bake in a preheated 350-degree oven for 35 minutes, until the fish "flakes" when pierced with a fork.
