Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 egg, beaten
1 cup beer
1 cup cake flour (4.5 oz by weight or 128 grams)
¼ tsp salt
¼ tsp paprika

Steps:

  • 1. This basic beer batter can be used for making homemade onion rings or for deep-frying fish and calamari, as well as all kinds of deep-fried vegetables. The bubbles in the beer are what create the leavening effect in the batter. And of course, the more flavorful the beer, the more flavorful the batter will be.
  • 2. Preparation: 1.Combine the egg and beer in a bowl. 2.In a separate bowl, combine the flour, salt and paprika. 3.Stir the beer mixture into the flour and mix to combine. NOTE: For best results, dredge the item you are going to fry lightly in flour before dipping it in the batter. The batter stick to the item better this way. Makes enough batter for 1 to 1½ pounds of onions (i.e. about ten 3 oz. portions of onion rings).

This recipe is a keeper! I've used it to make fish and chips, chicken strips, and even zucchini fries. Everything comes out perfectly crispy and delicious.

Meh. The batter was a bit too thick for my taste and the flavor was just okay.

This beer batter is a game-changer! It's so easy to make and it results in a crispy, golden-brown coating that's perfect for fish, chicken, or vegetables. I've used it on all of the above and it's always a hit. Highly recommend!
