1 teaspoon vanilla

If crust or pie appears to be getting too brown, cover with foil the remaining baking time. Tip: The original recipe stated that the pie should be baked 45 to 50 minutes in a preheated 350-degree gas oven. Time 1h10m

Yield 1 pie

Number Of Ingredients 8

unbaked 9-inch pie crust
1 cup light corn syrup
1 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
3 eggs, slightly beaten
1/3 cup butter, melted (I imagine that margarine can be substituted.)
1/3-1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup pecan halves

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  • In a large bowl, combine corn syrup, sugar, eggs, butter, salt and vanilla; mix well.
  • Pour filling into unbaked pie crust.
  • Sprinkle with pecan halves.
  • Bake for 45- 50 minutes or until center is set.
  • (Toothpick inserted in center will come out clean, when pie is done.).
  • (If crust or pie appears to be getting too brown, cover with foil for the remaining baking time.).
  • Cool.
  • You can top it with a bit of whip cream if desired.

Tips:

  • For the perfect texture, use a combination of light and dark corn syrup.
  • To prevent the pecans from sinking to the bottom of the pie, toss them with a little flour before adding them to the filling.
  • If you don't have a pie crust, you can use a pre-made one from the store.
  • To make sure the pie is cooked through, insert a toothpick into the center. If it comes out clean, the pie is done.
  • Let the pie cool completely before serving. This will help the filling to set and prevent it from running.

Conclusion:

Abby's Famous Pecan Pie is a classic Southern dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With its rich, buttery filling and crunchy pecans, this pie is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it. So next time you're looking for a delicious and easy-to-make dessert, give this recipe a try.
