ALL-AMERICAN BARBECUE SAUCE

All-American Barbecue Sauce image

I'm very excited to show you my take on America's most popular style of barbecue sauce--which of course originated in and around Kansas City. After you make a batch of this and taste just how incredible it is, I don't think you'll ever buy that stuff from the store again. Sauce may be used right away, but for best results, wrap and refrigerate for a day or two before using to allow the flavors to develop.

Tips:

  • Choose the right tomatoes. Vine-ripened tomatoes, especially Roma tomatoes, are the best choice for BBQ sauce because they have a naturally sweet flavor and a meaty texture.
  • Roast the tomatoes. Roasting the tomatoes intensifies their flavor and gives the sauce a smoky, caramelized taste.
  • Use a variety of spices. BBQ sauce is a great opportunity to experiment with different spices. Some popular options include paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, and chili powder.
  • Add a little sweetness. A touch of sweetness helps to balance out the acidity of the tomatoes and the spices. You can use brown sugar, honey, or molasses.
  • Let the sauce simmer. Simmering the sauce allows the flavors to meld and develop. The longer you simmer it, the better it will taste.

Conclusion:

With so many different recipes to choose from, there's sure to be a BBQ sauce that everyone will enjoy. Whether you like your sauce sweet, smoky, spicy, or tangy, there's a recipe out there for you. So fire up the grill and get ready to enjoy some delicious BBQ!
