Tips:

  • Choose the right apples: Use firm, tart apples for this salad, such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp. Avoid using soft, sweet apples, as they will not hold their shape well.
  • Use fresh cranberries: Fresh cranberries are best for this salad, but frozen cranberries can be used in a pinch. If using frozen cranberries, thaw them before using.
  • Toast the walnuts: Toasting the walnuts brings out their flavor and makes them more crunchy. You can toast the walnuts in a single layer in a 350°F oven for 5-7 minutes, or in a dry skillet over medium heat for 3-4 minutes, stirring constantly.
  • Make the vinaigrette ahead of time: The vinaigrette can be made up to 2 days ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator. Just be sure to whisk it well before using.
  • Assemble the salad just before serving: This salad is best when served fresh. Assemble the salad just before serving, and toss it gently to coat the ingredients with the vinaigrette.

Conclusion:

This apple, cranberry, and goat cheese salad is a delicious and refreshing salad that is perfect for fall. The tart apples and cranberries are a great complement to the creamy goat cheese, and the toasted walnuts add a nice crunch. This salad is sure to be a hit at your next party or potluck.
