Time 15m

Yield 6 to 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 6

1/2 cup apple butter
Four 8-inch flour tortillas
1 Granny Smith apple
4 ounces sliced deli turkey
4 slices sharp Cheddar (about 4 ounces), each halved
4 tablespoons unsalted butter

Steps:

  • Spread 2 tablespoons apple butter on each tortilla. Grate the apple (with the skin) on the large holes of a box grater taking care not to grate the seeds and core (you should have about 1 cup grated apple). Divide the grated apple between the tortillas, pressing it gently into the apple butter to anchor it.
  • Lay 1 ounce turkey and 2 halved cheese slices over each tortilla. Roll the tortillas up tightly.
  • Melt the butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add the wraps, seam side down, and cook until lightly toasted and the seam holds together, 1 to 2 minutes. Use tongs to flip and continue cooking until toasted, 1 to 2 minutes longer. Transfer the wraps to a cutting board and slice them into 1-inch pinwheels with a serrated knife.

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 cups dry biscuit mix
1/3 cup milk
¼ cup sour cream
2 TBs soft margarine
½ up packed brown sugar
1 cup peeled, chopped apple
1 tsp ground cinnamon
2/3 cup icing sugar
1 TB water

Steps:

  • In large bowl, combine biscuit mix, milk and sour cream; mix gently until just combined. Turn dough onto floured surface, knead 8 to 10 times. Roll dough into 14 x 10 inch rectangle. Spread dough with margarine; sprinkle with brown sugar, apples and cinnamon. Roll up dough lengthwise, jelly-roll fashion. Slice into 12 pinwheels. Place each pinwheel, cut side up, in lightly greased muffin tin. Bake in 425 F oven for 15 minutes or until golden brown; cool 5 minutes before removing from pan. Combine icing sugar and water, adding enough water to make a spreadable icing. Carefully remove pinwheels from tin; spread with icing. Note: I use milk instead of water in the icing. I also add a dash of vanilla extract to the icing. The recipe doesn't call for nuts, but chopped pecans are delicious in the filling, too.

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 can(s) refrigerated crescent rolls
1 pkg cream cheese, softened (8 oz)
2 apples, any type, cored and chopped
1/2 bunch chives
1 1/4 tsp cumin
1 tsp salt
3 dash(es) pepper
1/2 c salted cashews, chopped

Steps:

  • 1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all ingredients except crescent roll dough.
  • 2. Mix the filling well.
  • 3. Unroll both the cans of dough and cut each in half. You should have 4 sections. Pinch together the seams.
  • 4. Cover with "spread" until there is just about 1/4-1/2 inch left at end of dough.
  • 5. Roll up and pinch seam. Cut into 6 slices using a serrated knife.
  • 6. Place on baking sheet and bake for 15 mins or until golden brown.

Tips:

  • Choose the right apples: Use firm, tart apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp. These apples hold their shape well when baked.
  • Don't overmix the dough: Overmixing will make the dough tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Chill the dough before rolling it out: This will make the dough easier to work with and prevent it from sticking to your hands.
  • Roll the dough out thinly: The thinner the dough, the crispier the pinwheels will be.
  • Don't overfill the pinwheels: Too much filling will make the pinwheels difficult to roll up and seal.
  • Bake the pinwheels until they are golden brown: This will ensure that they are cooked through.
  • Let the pinwheels cool before serving: This will allow the filling to set and the pinwheels to firm up.

Conclusion:

Apple pinwheels are a delicious and easy-to-make treat that are perfect for any occasion. With their flaky crust and sweet, tart filling, they are sure to be a hit with everyone. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy dessert, give apple pinwheels a try. You won't be disappointed!
