Mama's Blackberry Cobbler image

Alabama has some tasty fresh blackberries. Decades ago, my mama was heading out to pick blackberries to make a cobbler, but she ended up going to the hospital to have me instead. This is her mama's recipe. The blackberries start on top, but then end up tucked under a golden brown crust after it's baked. -Lisa Allen, Joppa, Alabama

Tips:

  • Use fresh or frozen blackberries: Fresh blackberries are ideal for this cobbler, but frozen blackberries can also be used. If using frozen blackberries, thaw them before adding them to the cobbler.
  • Make sure the baking mix is fresh: Old baking mix can result in a dry, crumbly cobbler. If you're not sure if your baking mix is fresh, check the expiration date on the package.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing the batter can result in a tough, dense cobbler. Mix the batter just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Bake the cobbler until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling: This usually takes about 30-35 minutes. If the cobbler is not done baking, continue to bake it for a few more minutes.
  • Serve the cobbler warm with ice cream or whipped cream: This is the best way to enjoy this delicious dessert!

Conclusion:

This blackberry cobbler is a classic dessert that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. With its sweet and juicy blackberries, crispy crust, and creamy filling, this cobbler is sure to be a hit at your next potluck or family gathering.
