1 1/2 ounces wheat germ, approximately 1/2 cup
6 ounces honey, approximately 1/2 cup
1 3/4 ounces dark brown sugar, approximately 1/4 cup packed

THE BEST GRANOLA BAR

The Best Granola Bar image

I am always looking for a good granola bar recipe. I have tried so many other recipes, but none of them even come close to being as good as this one. These are so easy to make, and they are great for lunches or just for a snack. One word of caution.....the more you add to the recipe (ex more nuts), the more likely it is to crumble. These bars freeze really well. Hope you enjoy!

Time 25m

Yield 15-25 bars, 20 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1/4 cup melted butter or 1/4 cup margarine
2 cups rolled oats
1 cup Rice Krispies
1 cup toasted slivered almonds
3/4 cup shelled sunflower seeds
1 cup mini chocolate chip

Steps:

  • You seriously can switch it up however you like. for chewier bars, use 3 cups oats and no rice krispies. I usually throw in a little vanilla, peanut butter, sesame seeds, any other chopped nuts, a couple tablespoons of brown sugar, a sprinkle of cinnamon, maybe some coconut or raisins.
  • mix all together.
  • grease a small cookie sheet and flatten down (if the pan is too large, just use half of it, the bars won't spread).
  • Press down firmly.
  • Bake on 325 degrees for about 20 minutes (just browned around the edges). Bake longer if you prefer crispier bars.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ingredients: Use fresh, high-quality ingredients for the best flavor and texture. For example, use real butter instead of margarine, and choose natural sweeteners like honey or maple syrup over refined sugar.
  • Pay attention to the measurements: Be precise when measuring your ingredients, as this can affect the outcome of your granola bars. Use a kitchen scale for accuracy.
  • Don't overmix the dough: Overmixing the dough will make the granola bars tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Press the dough firmly into the pan: This will help the granola bars hold together better.
  • Bake the granola bars until they are golden brown: This will ensure that they are cooked through and have a nice crispy texture.
  • Use different toppings: Experiment with different toppings, such as chocolate chips, nuts, seeds, or dried fruit, to create different flavor combinations.
  • Store the granola bars properly: Granola bars can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks, or in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Conclusion:

Homemade granola bars are a delicious and healthy snack that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are easy to make and can be customized to suit your own taste preferences. With a little planning and effort, you can create granola bars that are both nutritious and delicious.
