Number Of Ingredients 5

(4) 3 ounce boxes Jello gelatin (, assorted colors)
4 cups boiling water
(2) .25 ounce envelopes unflavored gelatin
2 cups hot water
14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk

Steps:

  • Dissolve each box of jello into its own individual container, using 1 cup of boiling water per flavor (no more than 1-inch deep.) Chill until solid, about 3 hours or overnight.
  • Once solid, cut each of the different flavors into small square cubes.
  • Using a 9×13 glass dish, gently mix the cubes together in an even layer (being very careful not to break or tear them.)
  • In a medium-sized bowl, dissolve 2 envelopes of unflavored gelatin in 2 cups of hot water. Let the hot mixture cool slightly and then whisk in the sweetened condensed milk.
  • Let mixture cool to the touch (If it's too warm, it could melt the Jello cubes.) Then evenly pour the mixture over the cubes of Jello.
  • Chill in the refrigerator overnight.
  • Cut into squares and serve.

BROKEN GLASS CAKE

Broken Glass Cake image

The name does not accurately describe this dessert but since it has been a family favorite for so many years I am loathe to change it. This is a light, child-friendly dessert we instituted for the children at Christmas. It is especially well-received after a heavy meal. You will be asked for seconds!

BROKEN GLASS JELLO RECIPE - (3.8/5)

Broken Glass Jello Recipe - (3.8/5) image

Provided by littlejordan

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk (don't get evaporated milk)
2 envelopes unflavored gelatin (that Knox stuff)
4 small boxes (3-ounce) of Jell-O or store brand "gelatin dessert" in different colors

Steps:

  • For each flavor, dissolve one box of jello in one cup of boiling water. Pour into a container and chill (overnight is probably best, but I chilled it 3 hours until firm). After chilling the four flavors, cut them into small blocks. Carefully mix the blocks in a 9 x 13 pan. In a separate bowl, sprinkle 2 envelopes unflavored gelatin into 1/2 cup cold water. After the gelatin blooms, add 1 1/2 cup boiling water and dissolve. Add the can of condensed milk. Stir and cool. Pour cooled milk mixture over jello and chill overnight. Cut into blocks or shapes and serve!

Tips:

  • For the perfect broken glass effect: Use two different colors of gelatin, one light and one dark. Pour the lighter color into the mold first, then tilt the mold to create a thin layer on one side. Let it set, then pour in the darker color and tilt the mold in the opposite direction to create another thin layer. Repeat this process until you have achieved the desired effect.
  • To make the gelatin easier to cut: Chill it for at least 4 hours, or overnight. This will make it firmer and easier to handle.
  • To prevent the gelatin from sticking to the mold: Lightly grease the mold with cooking spray or oil before pouring in the gelatin.
  • To create a more realistic broken glass effect: Use a sharp knife to score the surface of the gelatin before chilling it. This will create lines that resemble cracks in glass.
  • To add extra flavor and color to your broken glass gelatin: Add fruit juice, extracts, or food coloring to the gelatin mixture before pouring it into the mold.

Conclusion:

Broken glass gelatin is a fun and easy dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With its stunning appearance and delicious taste, it is sure to be a hit with your friends and family. So next time you're looking for a unique and impressive dessert, give broken glass gelatin a try!
