1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 large egg, room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup buttermilk
FROSTING:
3 tablespoons butter, softened
3-1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
1/4 cup whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts, optional

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking soda and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beating well after each addition. , Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls 2 in. apart onto greased baking sheets. Bake until edges are lightly browned, 10-12 minutes. Remove to wire racks to cool. , For frosting, combine butter, confectioners' sugar, milk and vanilla; beat until smooth. 4 teaspoons baking powder

3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon grated lemon zest
1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
2 large eggs

2/3 cup well-shaken buttermilk
For glaze
1 1/2 cups confectioners sugar
3 tablespoons well-shaken buttermilk
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Make cookies:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F with rack in middle. Butter 2 large baking sheets.
  • Whisk together flour, zest, baking soda, and salt.

1 egg
1 c buttermilk
1 tsp baking soda
1 c crisco, melted
1 tsp baking powder
4 c flour

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • 2. Mix sugar and eggs very well. Then add buttermilk and baking powder, blend well.
  • 3. Next, add baking soda and flour, mixing well. Stir in Crisco until blended.
