Skillet Cinnamon Apples on a Devils Food cake topped with whipped cream!...YUM! Actually any unfrosted cake or vanilla pound cake will work. I had the apples and a boxed cake, so I decided to make a desert for a friend, that had to put down her doggie. She loves chocolate, and I am sure this recipe will make her feel a wee bit...

1/3 c butter
1/2 c sugar
2 Tbsp cornstarch
1-1/2 c water
1/2 tsp cinnamon
4 medium cooking apples, cored and unpeeled, cut into eights

Steps:

  • 1. In a 10 inch skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the sugar and cornstarch, mix well. Add remaining ingredients. Stir.
  • 2. Add remaining ingredients. Cover and cook over medium heat, spooning sauce occasionally, until apples are fork tender and sauce is thickened. 12- to 15 minutes. This is a Land-O-Lakes, an old recipe from my file.
  • 3. I baked a DEVILS FOOD CAKE, from a box mix.
  • 4. Ready to serve...ENJOY! My camera is acting up... white colors are hard to see.????? Sorry.
  • 5. I made a Devils Food Cake from a mix. In a hurry??? Buy a ready made Angels Food cake already made.
  • 6. Or bake my recipe Pound Cake. Picture and recipe on J.A.P. for: POUND CAKE ............. (An Entenmanns's Clone)

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Apples: For the best flavor and texture, use firm, tart apples such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Pink Lady.
  • Slice Apples Evenly: This will ensure that they cook evenly. Use a sharp knife to cut the apples into thin, uniform slices.
  • Don't Overcook the Apples: They should be tender but still retain a slight crunch. Cook them over medium heat and stir frequently.
  • Make Sure the Butter is Hot Enough: This will help the apples brown and caramelize. If the butter is not hot enough, the apples will steam instead of brown.
  • Use a Heavy Skillet: This will help distribute the heat evenly and prevent the apples from sticking.
  • Add the Cinnamon and Sugar at the End: This will prevent them from burning.
  • Serve the Apples Warm: They are best enjoyed immediately after they are cooked.

Conclusion:

Buttery Cinnamon Skillet Apples on Devil's Food is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion. The apples are tender and flavorful, with a slight crunch, and the cinnamon and sugar add a touch of sweetness and spice. The devil's food cake provides a rich and decadent base for the apples. This dessert is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it.
