1 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 lb smoked ham, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
1/4 lb white cheese, shredded (Vermont white cheddar, Gruyere, or Swiss)
2 tablespoons chopped fresh herbs (chervil, flat-leaf parsley, or thyme)

Tips:

  • For a fluffy omelet, separate the egg whites and yolks, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form, and then fold them into the yolks.
  • To prevent the omelet from sticking to the pan, use a non-stick skillet or grease the pan with butter or cooking spray.
  • Cook the omelet over medium heat. If the heat is too high, the omelet will brown too quickly and the inside will be undercooked.
  • Do not overcook the omelet. An overcooked omelet will be tough and dry.
  • Add your favorite fillings to the omelet before cooking. Some popular fillings include cheese, ham, bacon, vegetables, and herbs.
  • Serve the omelet immediately with your favorite sides, such as toast, fruit, or salad.
