Tips:

  • Select the Right Potatoes: Choose firm, round potatoes like Yukon Gold or Russets. Avoid waxy varieties like Red Potatoes as they tend to hold their shape and don't crisp up well.
  • Slice Potatoes Thinly: The thinner the potato slices, the crispier they will be. Aim for slices that are about ⅛ inch thick.
  • Soak the Potatoes: Soaking the potato slices in cold water for 30 minutes removes excess starch, resulting in crispier potatoes.
  • Dry the Potatoes Thoroughly: After soaking, pat the potato slices dry to remove excess moisture. This helps them crisp up in the oven.
  • Use Parchment Paper: Line your baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent the potatoes from sticking and making cleanup easier.
  • Don't Overcrowd the Baking Sheet: Make sure to spread the potato slices in a single layer on the baking sheet. Overcrowding leads to soggy, steamed potatoes instead of crispy ones.
  • Flip the Potatoes Halfway Through Cooking: Flipping the potato slices halfway through the baking time ensures even cooking and helps them crisp up on both sides.
  • Add Cheese During the Last Few Minutes: Sprinkle the cheese over the potatoes during the last few minutes of baking to prevent it from burning.
  • Season Generously: Don't be shy with the seasonings. Use a combination of salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika for a classic flavor profile.
  • Serve Hot: Cheesy Hockey Puck Potatoes are best served hot out of the oven. They make a great side dish for any meal.

Conclusion:

Cheesy Hockey Puck Potatoes are an easy and delicious side dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. With just a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create these crispy, cheesy potato bites that are perfect for any occasion.
