Number Of Ingredients 22

1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water (110° to 115°)
3/4 cup warm milk (110° to 115°)
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup butter, softened
1 large egg
3/4 teaspoon salt
3-1/2 to 3-3/4 cups all-purpose flour
FILLING:
1 cup dried cherries or cranberries
1 cup boiling water
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1-1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/4 cup cold butter
GLAZE:
1-1/4 cups confectioners' sugar
1 teaspoon light corn syrup
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
2 tablespoons half-and-half cream
Halved red and green candied cherries, optional

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add the milk, sugar, butter, egg, salt and 3-1/2 cups flour. Beat until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough. , Turn onto a lightly floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour., Meanwhile, place cherries in a bowl; add boiling water. Let stand for 5 minutes; drain and squeeze out excess water. In another bowl, combine the brown sugar, flour and cinnamon; cut in butter until crumbly. Add cherries; toss to coat. , Punch dough down; turn onto a lightly floured surface. 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
