Classic marshmallow cereal bars welcome mini chocolate chips with open arms.

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Time 25m

Yield 9 to 12 bars

Number Of Ingredients 6

Cooking spray
One 10-ounce bag marshmallows
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
5 cups crisp rice cereal
3/4 cup mini semisweet chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Line a 9-inch square baking pan with aluminum foil, leaving a 1-inch overhang on each end to lift the finished treats out of the pan; lightly coat with cooking spray.
  • Put the marshmallows and butter in a large pot set over medium heat. Cook, stirring, until the mixture is melted and smooth. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Add the cereal and continue to stir until well coated. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  • Scrape the mixture into the prepared pan. Firmly press with your hands (coat them with some cooking spray to keep them from sticking) until evenly packed in the pan. Set aside until cooled. Using the foil overhang, lift the treats out of the pan and cut into bars.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality chocolate chips for the best flavor.
  • Don't overmix the batter, as this will make the bars tough.
  • Be sure to press the marshmallows into the batter firmly, so they don't sink to the bottom.
  • Bake the bars until they are just set in the center, as overbaking will make them dry.
  • Let the bars cool completely before cutting them, as this will help them hold their shape.

Conclusion:

Chocolate chip marshmallow bars are a classic dessert that is always a hit with kids and adults alike. They are easy to make and can be customized to your own liking. Whether you like your bars gooey or chewy, with chocolate chips or marshmallows, there is a recipe out there for you.
