My daughter Paige and I were wondering what to do with slightly stale cereal. Instead of the same ole topping we used her cereal.

Time 55m

Number Of Ingredients 9

7-8 baking apples peeled and cut-up into small pieces
2 Tbsp lemon juice over apples for non-browning
1/4 c light brown sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/3 c flour
1/3 c sugar
1 1/2 c broken up cinnamon toast crunch cereal
4 Tbsp butter, cut-up in small pieces

Steps:

  • 1. Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees. Butter 9 inch glass dish. Place in chopped apples. Mix all above ingredients except butter. Spread over apples. Place small pieces of butter over the cereal coating. Bake for 30-45 min. depending on your oven until topping is crunchy. Cool or serve warm with a scoop of ice cream.

Tips:

  • Choose the right apples: Use a variety of apples that will hold their shape when baked, such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Braeburn.
  • Slice the apples thinly: This will help them cook evenly and absorb the flavors of the other ingredients.
  • Don't overcook the apples: They should be tender but still have a slight bite to them.
  • Use a combination of spices: Cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger are all classic apple pie spices, but you can also add other spices that you like, such as cardamom or allspice.
  • Don't skimp on the butter: Butter adds richness and flavor to the apple crisp. Use unsalted butter so that you can control the amount of salt in the dish.
  • Make sure the topping is crumbly: The topping should be crumbly and not too dense. If it's too dense, it will weigh down the apples and make the crisp soggy.
  • Bake the apple crisp until the topping is golden brown: This will ensure that the topping is crispy and the apples are cooked through.

Conclusion:

Cinnamon Toast Crunch Apple Crisp is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for fall. The combination of sweet apples, crunchy cinnamon cereal, and a buttery oat topping is irresistible. This recipe is sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
