This is the best hamburger I have ever eaten. You can add your own favorite condiments.

Provided by Genny Charles

Categories     Burgers

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 lb lean ground beef
1 large egg
1/2 c minced onions
1/4 c cup fine dried bread crumbs
1 Tbsp worcestershire
1 or 2 clove garlic
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
4 large hamburger buns, 4in wide, split
1/4 c mayonnaise
1/4 c ketchup
4 iceberg lettuce leaves, rinced & crisp
1 firm ripe tomatoe, cored & sliced
4 thin sliced red or sweet onion

Steps:

  • 1. 1. In a bowl, mix ground beef, egg, onion, bread crumbs, Worcestershire, garlic, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper until well blended. Divide mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a patty about 4 inches wide.
  • 2. 2. Lay burgers on an oiled barbecue grill over a solid bed of hot coals or high heat on a gas grill (you can hold your hand at grill level only 2 to 3 seconds); close lid on gas grill. Cook burgers, turning once, until browned on both sides and no longer pink inside (cut to test), 7 to 8 minutes total. Remove from grill
  • 3. 3. Lay buns, cut side down, on grill and cook until lightly toasted, 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  • 4. 4. Spread mayonnaise and ketchup on bun bottoms. Add lettuce, tomato, burger, onion, and salt and pepper to taste. Set bun tops in place.
  • 5. Notes: If you want absolute bacteria safety, you need to cook your burgers to 160°. This recipe will keep them moist. To make cheeseburgers, about 1 minute before burgers are done, top with sliced cheese; continue cooking until cheese begins to melt. Prep and cook time: about 30 minutes.

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Beef: Opt for high-quality ground beef with a fat content of 15-20% for juicy burgers.
  • Season Wisely: Use a combination of salt, pepper, and your favorite herbs and spices to enhance the flavor of the patties.
  • Handle the Meat Gently: Avoid overworking the ground beef, as this can result in tough burgers.
  • Form Perfect Patties: Create evenly-sized patties that are slightly indented in the center to prevent them from puffing up while cooking.
  • Cook to Your Desired Doneness: Use a meat thermometer to ensure the burgers reach your preferred level of doneness, whether it's rare, medium-rare, medium, or well-done.
  • Don't Crowd the Pan: Cook the burgers in a single layer to avoid steaming and ensure even cooking.
  • Let the Burgers Rest: After cooking, allow the burgers to rest for a few minutes before serving. This helps the juices redistribute, resulting in a more flavorful and tender burger.
  • Build Your Perfect Burger: Layer the burger with your favorite toppings, such as cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and sauces, to create a customized and delicious meal.

Conclusion:

Creating a classic hamburger is an art form that requires careful attention to detail. By following these tips and techniques, you can elevate your burger-making skills and impress your friends and family with mouthwatering, juicy, and flavorful burgers that are sure to satisfy every craving. Remember, the key to a great burger lies in the quality of the ingredients, proper seasoning, and cooking the patties to perfection. Experiment with different toppings and combinations to discover your ideal burger recipe, and enjoy the process of perfecting this timeless culinary delight.
