CROCK POT VENISON CHILI

Absolutely delicious venison chili, and super fast prep time. Can also be made with ground beef or turkey. Tastes a lot like Wendy's chili! This was adapted/modified from "Slow-Cooker Hearty Beef Chili" in Kraft Food & Family Fall 2008 issue.

Time 10m

Yield 8 cups, 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 1/2 lbs ground venison (deer)
1 (15 ounce) can dark red kidney beans
1 (15 ounce) can light red kidney beans
1 1/2 cups chunky salsa (I use Pace Picante in Medium)
1 (16 ounce) can tomato sauce
2 tablespoons chili powder
3/4 cup onion, chopped
1 cup frozen corn, thawed, drained
2 tablespoons A.1. Original Sauce
1/4 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
1/4 green bell pepper, chopped
2 bay leaves

Steps:

  • Brown venison, until there is just a little tiny bit of pink still. This keeps the venison from getting tough, since it is super lean.
  • add to crock pot with all remaining ingredients.
  • cook on LOW for 5-6 hours or on HIGH for 3-4 hours.
  • stir before serving, top with shredded cheddar or mexican cheese.

CROCK POT VENISON CHILI

"For those of us who love venison and chili, who can you go wrong by both being combined? The answer, you can't!!!"

Provided by BetterCookingForSingleFathers

Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 16

2 lbs ground venison
1 medium onion, chopped
1 medium yellow bell pepper, seeded and chopped
32 oz kidney beans
28 oz tomato puree
14 1/2 oz diced tomatoes, chili style
3 tbsp chili powder
1 tsp salt
1 large bay leaf, broken in half
1/4 tsp paprika
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
4 tbsp ground cumin
1 tbsp cumin seed
1/8 tsp cinnamon
1 pinch ground black pepper
1/2 cups water

Steps:

  • Brown the venison in a stock pot (I use non-stick).
  • Add onion and pepper, sauté until slightly soft, about 10 minutes. When done, dump the mixture into a crock pot.
  • Add remaining ingredients and cook on low for at least 8 hours.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of venison: Chuck roast, shoulder roast, or stew meat are all good options for chili.
  • Brown the venison before adding it to the crock pot: This will help to develop flavor and prevent the meat from becoming tough.
  • Use a variety of beans: A combination of kidney beans, black beans, and pinto beans adds flavor and texture to the chili.
  • Add vegetables: Diced onions, bell peppers, and tomatoes add sweetness and depth of flavor to the chili.
  • Season the chili to taste: Chili powder, cumin, paprika, and cayenne pepper are all classic chili seasonings.
  • Let the chili simmer for at least 4 hours: This will allow the flavors to meld and develop.
  • Serve the chili with your favorite toppings: Sour cream, shredded cheese, diced onions, and jalapenos are all popular options.

Conclusion:

Crock pot venison chili is a hearty, flavorful dish that is perfect for a cold winter day. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With a few simple tips, you can make a delicious crock pot venison chili that your family and friends will love.
