I love this recipe. The bread gets crispy/crusty and it is absolutely wonderful with the chili mixutre and cheese. So good! A lot of times, I skip the onion and use onion powder. It's just as good.

2 cups confectioners sugar
1/2 cup marshmallow Fluff
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
Cookies
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup cocoa
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup milk
6 T butter (*melted and cooled)
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg

Steps:

  • Beat together filling ingredients. Mix together: flour, baking soda, salt, cocoa and sugar. Gradually add: milk, melted & cooled butter, vanilla & egg. Drop by spoonful on ungreased cookie sheet. Try to keep them close to the same size so that the tops and bottoms match up. Bake at 350 for 12-14 minutes. (check cookies after 7 minutes) Put together Devil Dogs by spreading some filling on one of the cookies then topping with a 2nd cookie. Devil Dogs freeze well.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality chocolate: The quality of the chocolate you use will greatly impact the flavor of your devil dogs. Use a semisweet or bittersweet chocolate that has a cocoa content of at least 70%.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing the batter will make the cakes tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Chill the dough before baking: Chilling the dough before baking will help the cakes to hold their shape.
  • Bake the cakes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs attached: Overbaking the cakes will make them dry.
  • Let the cakes cool completely before filling them: This will help to prevent the filling from melting.
  • Use a variety of fillings: Devil dogs can be filled with a variety of fillings, such as chocolate ganache, whipped cream, or ice cream. Get creative and experiment with different flavors.
  • Decorate the cakes as desired: Devil dogs can be decorated with a variety of toppings, such as chocolate chips, sprinkles, or nuts. Get creative and have fun!
