Yield Makes about 4 cups

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 12-ounce container frozen cranberry juice cocktail, thawed
1 cup water
1 cup (packed) golden brown sugar
1 cinnamon stick, broken in half
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1 6-ounce package dried tart cherries*
1 12-ounce bag cranberries

Steps:

  • Bring first 5 ingredients to boil in heavy medium saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Add cherries; cook 2 minutes. Add cranberries; cook until berries pop, stirring occasionally, about 9 minutes. Transfer to bowl. Cover; chill overnight. (Can be made 1 week ahead. Keep chilled.) Discard cinnamon. Serve cold or at room temperature.
  • Available at specialty foods stores, natural foods stores, and supermarkets

Tips:

  • To ensure the best flavor, use fresh, plump cherries and cranberries.
  • If you don't have fresh cranberries, you can use frozen cranberries instead. Just thaw them before using.
  • You can adjust the amount of sugar in the sauce to taste. If you like a sweeter sauce, add more sugar. If you prefer a tarter sauce, add less sugar.
  • You can add other spices to the sauce, such as cinnamon, nutmeg, or cloves, to give it a more complex flavor.
  • Be sure to simmer the sauce for the full amount of time to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Once the sauce has cooled, it can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Conclusion:

Dried cherry and cranberry sauce is a versatile condiment that can be enjoyed in many different ways. It can be served with turkey, chicken, pork, or ham. It can also be used as a topping for pancakes, waffles, or ice cream. And it can even be used as a filling for pies and tarts.

No matter how you choose to enjoy it, dried cherry and cranberry sauce is a delicious and festive addition to any meal.
