Tips:

  • Use a 9x13 inch baking dish. This is the most common size for dump cakes, and it will ensure that the cake is cooked evenly.
  • Do not overmix the batter. Overmixing will result in a tough cake. Simply stir the ingredients together until they are combined.
  • Use fresh fruit. Fresh fruit will give your dump cake the best flavor. If you are using frozen fruit, be sure to thaw it before using.
  • Do not skimp on the butter. Butter is what gives dump cakes their rich flavor and moist texture. Use at least 1/2 cup of butter, and more if you like.
  • Bake the cake until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. This usually takes about 45 minutes.
  • Let the cake cool slightly before serving. This will allow the cake to set and the flavors to develop.
