A warm and hearty Indian-inspired lentil stew. Perfect for a cold night. The flavors of curry and cumin make this a very tantalizing dish and fill the kitchen with a very aromatic fragrance. This dish is easy to prepare and very yum! I like to serve this over steamed brown rice and with naan.

Tips:

  • Prep Your Ingredients: Chop your vegetables and gather your spices before you start cooking. This will make the process go much faster.
  • Use Fresh Spices: Freshly ground spices have a more intense flavor than pre-ground spices. If you can, use a mortar and pestle to grind your own spices.
  • Don't Be Afraid to Adjust the Spices: The amount of spices called for in a recipe is just a suggestion. Feel free to adjust them to suit your own taste.
  • Use a Good Quality Yogurt: The yogurt you use in your stew will make a big difference in the flavor of the dish. Choose a yogurt that is thick and creamy, and avoid using low-fat or non-fat yogurt.
  • Simmer, Don't Boil: Bring your stew to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for at least 30 minutes. This will allow the flavors to meld and develop.
  • Serve with Rice or Naan: Aloo mutter is traditionally served with rice or naan. You can also serve it with roti or paratha.

Conclusion:

Aloo mutter is a simple but flavorful dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal. It's easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy Indian dish, give aloo mutter a try!
