Time 1h30m

Yield 16

Number Of Ingredients 9

cooking spray
½ cup unsalted butter
½ cup sweetened condensed milk
1 (10 ounce) package miniature marshmallows
1 cup miniature marshmallows
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon fine sea salt
6 cups crispy rice cereal (such as Rice Krispies®)
1 pinch Sea Salt, gray

Steps:

  • Grease an 8x8x2-inch pan with cooking spray.
  • Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add sweetened condensed milk. Stir with a rubber spatula until butter and milk are uniformly combined and small bubbles are forming in the center of the mixture, about 2 minutes. (When you first begin stirring they will look separated.) Add the bag of marshmallows and stir until melted and smooth. Add vanilla extract and salt and stir again. Remove from heat.
  • Stir rice cereal and remaining cup of marshmallows into the pot to combine. Transfer to the prepared pan and press down lightly with a sheet of plastic wrap; don't pack them down too hard or they will lose their inherently soft and gooey texture. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
  • Let set up on the counter for at least 1 hour. Cut into 16 squares.

Tips:

  • Use fresh marshmallows: Fresh marshmallows will give your rice krispie treats the best flavor and texture.
  • Don't overcook the marshmallows: Overcooked marshmallows will make your rice krispie treats tough and chewy. Cook them just until they are melted and smooth.
  • Add the rice krispies gradually: Adding the rice krispies all at once can make it difficult to stir and can result in unevenly coated pieces. Add them gradually, stirring constantly, until they are evenly coated with the marshmallow mixture.
  • Press the mixture firmly into the pan: Pressing the mixture firmly into the pan will help to keep it together and prevent it from crumbling.
  • Let the treats cool completely before cutting: Cutting the treats too early will make them sticky and difficult to handle. Let them cool completely at room temperature or in the refrigerator before cutting.

Conclusion:

Rice krispie treats are a classic no-bake treat that is easy to make and loved by people of all ages. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a delicious and satisfying snack or dessert. Whether you are making them for a party, a potluck, or just for yourself, rice krispie treats are sure to be a hit.
