This is adopted from a Lucky Leaf recipe. It is SO easy and so good! I've served it at many functions and it goes fast! I haven't tried other fruit fillings but I'm sure blueberry would work too. Refrigerate remaining pieces.

Time 50m

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 1/2 c sugar
1/2 c butter, softened
1/2 c crisco
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1 tsp almond extract
4 eggs
3 c flour
1 can(s) cherry pie filling
GLAZE
2 c confectioners sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 Tbsp butter, softened
1 Tbsp milk

Steps:

  • 1. Lightly grease a jelly roll pan. Blend the following ingredients with a mixer: sugar, butter, shortening, baking powder, vanilla, almond extract and eggs. If you aren't in the habit of keeping almond extract around, just replace it with vanilla. If a little vanilla is good, more is better! Blend on low, then turn up the mixer to high for 3 minutes.
  • 2. Add the flour and blend by hand. Spread 2/3 of the batter in the jelly roll pan. Spread the pie filling over the batter and then, drop the remaining batter by spoonfuls onto the pie filling.
  • 3. Bake for 35-40 minutes in a 350 degree oven. Don't let it brown too much! While the cake is still slightly warm, drizzle with glaze.
  • 4. Directions for Glaze
  • 5. 1 Mix the confectioners' sugar, butter, and vanilla together.
  • 6. 2 Adding half the milk (or orange juice) to start with, stir in to make a thick glaze, adding just a drop at a time more until you get a nice thick glaze.
  • 7. 3 Spread or pour immediately over warm Danish.

EASY CHERRY CREAM CHEESE DANISH RECIPE - (3.8/5)

Number Of Ingredients 11

Cream cheese mixture:
Ready made Puff Pastry (1 sheet)
Cherry pie filling (or fruit of choice)
Half block of cream cheese (4oz)
1 Tbs sugar
vanilla extract (few drops)
lemon juice (just a splash)
Soften the cream cheese in the microwave for 10 seconds and mix in the sugar, vanilla, and lemon. The amounts are really just to taste.
Drizzle icing:
1 cup of powdered sugar
2-3 tsp orange juice or until you get the right consistency.

Steps:

  • I cut the sheet of pastry into 9 squares. Then spread the cream cheese mixture on a diagonal. Added a few cherries... And pulled the opposite corners up and pinched them together. Brush with a bit of egg wash and bake at 400-425 until golden brown, about 15 minutes in my oven. Pour a cup of coffee and enjoy. These would be great for a brunch table, too!

Tips:

  • Use fresh cherries: Fresh cherries will give your Danish the best flavor. If you can't find fresh cherries, you can use frozen cherries that have been thawed and drained.
  • Don't overmix the dough: Overmixing the dough will make it tough. Mix it just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Chill the dough before rolling it out: Chilling the dough will make it easier to roll out and will help to prevent it from sticking to the counter.
  • Use a sharp knife to cut the dough: A sharp knife will give you clean cuts and will help to prevent the dough from tearing.
  • Bake the Danish until it is golden brown: The Danish is done baking when it is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.

Conclusion:

Cherry Danish is a delicious and easy-to-make treat that is perfect for any occasion. It is a great way to use up fresh cherries, and it can be made ahead of time and refrigerated or frozen. Whether you are serving it for breakfast, brunch, or dessert, Cherry Danish is sure to be a hit.
