Time 1h25m

Yield 10

Number Of Ingredients 8

4 large apples - peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
1 pinch ground cinnamon
7 ounces unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 cup white sugar
3 teaspoons vanilla sugar
1 egg
2 cups all-purpose flour
3 ½ teaspoons baking powder

Steps:

  • Combine apple slices and cinnamon in a saucepan and cook over low heat for 10 minutes. If necessary, add a tiny bit of water so apples don't burn. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 10-inch springform pan with butter
  • Combine butter, sugar, vanilla sugar, and egg in a large bowl; beat using an electric mixer until smooth and creamy. Mix flour and baking powder in a separate bowl. Add 2/3 of flour mixture, 1 tablespoon at a time, to butter mixture and beat on low speed. Add remaining flour mixture and mix in by hand to make a crumbly dough.
  • Transfer 1/2 the dough into the prepared springform pan and press down to create a bottom crust. Add apple slices, leaving a small space around the edges. Crumble remaining dough evenly on top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until streusel and crust are lightly browned, about 50 minutes. Cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes. Run a table knife around the edges to loosen. Carefully transfer to a serving plate or cooling rack.

Tips:

  • Use a combination of apples: Using a variety of apples, such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Braeburn, will give your pie a more complex flavor and texture.
  • Slice the apples thinly: This will help them cook evenly and prevent them from becoming too mushy.
  • Don't overwork the dough: Overworking the dough will make it tough. Just mix it until it comes together.
  • Chill the dough before baking: Chilling the dough will help it hold its shape and prevent it from spreading too much in the oven.
  • Bake the pie until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling: This will ensure that the pie is cooked through.
  • Let the pie cool before serving: This will allow the filling to set and the flavors to meld.

Conclusion:

This gluten-free streusel apple pie is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With its flaky crust, tender apples, and sweet streusel topping, this pie is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it. The key to making a great gluten-free apple pie is to use a good gluten-free flour blend. I recommend using a blend that contains a variety of flours, such as almond flour, coconut flour, and tapioca flour. This will help to create a crust that is both flaky and tender. Another important tip is to not overwork the dough. Overworking the dough will make it tough. Just mix it until it comes together. Finally, be sure to chill the dough before baking. This will help it hold its shape and prevent it from spreading too much in the oven.
