Tips:
- Choose firm, tart apples that will hold their shape when cooked, such as Honeycrisp, Braeburn, or Pink Lady.
- Use a heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven to prevent the apples from sticking and burning.
- Stir the apples frequently to ensure even cooking and prevent them from sticking to the pot.
- Don't overcrowd the pot; cook the apples in batches if necessary.
- Add the butter, brown sugar, and spices to taste. You can also add a splash of apple cider vinegar or lemon juice for a bit of tartness.
- Cook the apples until they are tender but still hold their shape. This usually takes about 15-20 minutes.
- Serve the drunken apples warm or at room temperature. They can be served on their own, over ice cream, or with whipped cream.
