FIRE CRACKERS

Seasoned saltine crackers that are simple to make and add a special touch for your dips and spreads at parties. I have had these on several occasions at bachelorette parties and babies showers but was never given the recipe. My sister had them recently at a birthday party, got the recipe, and passed it on to me. Unfortunately, I don't know who to credit for this, but it's certainly a keeper!!! Was initially concerned about the amount of oil, but hey, it's party food, RIGHT? I have used whole wheat crackers and different kinds of dip/dressing mixes successfully so have fun and get creative!

Time 20m

Yield 24 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 lb unsalted saltine crackers (4 sleeves)
1 cup canola oil
1 (1 ounce) packet ranch dressing mix
2 tablespoons crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Steps:

  • Line crackers on ends (like dominoes) in an air-tight container.
  • In a small bowl, mix oil, dressing mix, peppers, and garlic powder.
  • Stir until all ingredients are well mixed.
  • Continue to stir to prevent the pepper from settling on the bottom of the bowl.

  • Close lid tightly and flip the container over every 5 minutes for about 20 minutes. Lightly shake back and forth to make sure all the crackers are coated.
  • Store in a ziplock bag. Will keep for about a week -- if they last that long!

Tips:

  • Choose the right oil: For deep-frying, use an oil with a high smoke point, such as grapeseed oil, avocado oil, or refined coconut oil.
  • Use a deep fryer or large pot: A deep fryer or large pot with high sides is essential for safely deep-frying fiery crackers.
  • Maintain the correct oil temperature: Use a candy thermometer to monitor the oil temperature and keep it between 350°F and 375°F.
  • Don't overcrowd the pot: Fry the fiery crackers in batches to avoid overcrowding the pot, which can cause the oil temperature to drop and the crackers to become soggy.
  • Drain on paper towels: After frying, drain the fiery crackers on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  • Season to taste: While the fiery crackers are still hot, season them with salt, pepper, or your favorite seasonings.

Conclusion:

These fiery crackers are a delicious and easy-to-make snack or appetizer that will add a kick of heat to your next gathering. With just a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a crispy, flavorful treat that everyone will love. Serve them on their own or with your favorite dipping sauce for a truly unforgettable experience.
