Frozen Limes Filled with Sangrita and Tequila image

_Limas Congeladas Rellenas de Sangrita y Tequila_ Most _sangrita_ recipes include tomato as well as orange juice, hence the name ("little blood"). This spicy, salty juice mixture is a traditional chaser for straight tequila. If you don't have time to prepare the frozen lime cups, just pour the _sangrita_ and tequila into shot glasses. Pair the _sangrita_ with a _reposado_ tequila, which has been briefly aged to impart richer, more complex flavor and a smoother sip. (See "Wine & Spirits" for some great top-shelf tequilas.)

Yield Serves 12

Number Of Ingredients 6

12 limes, ends trimmed, cut crosswise in half
2 1/4 cups fresh orange juice
5 tablespoons grenadine syrup
1 teaspoon (generous) salt
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Premium tequila

Steps:

  • Squeeze lime halves in citrus juicer to extract as much juice as possible. Transfer 3/4 cup lime juice to bowl; cover and chill. Reserve remaining juice for another use. Using scissors, cut out membranes from hollowed lime halves. Enclose lime cups in resealable plastic bag. Freeze until frozen, about 4 hours.
  • Mix orange juice, 3/4 cup lime juice, grenadine, salt, and cayenne in blender. Transfer mixture to pitcher. Cover sangrita and refrigerate until cold, about 2 hours. (Can be made 1 day ahead. Keep sangrita chilled. Keep lime cups frozen.)

SANGRITA WITH A PINEAPPLE-LIME ICEBERG

Sangrita with a Pineapple-Lime Iceberg image

When a margarita meets sangria, this fruity, potent punch ensues. The lime-pineapple iceberg melts more slowly than standard ice cubes, keeping the punch cold without diluting it.

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Time 4h15m

Yield 10 to 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 10

4 limes, cut into 12 wedges each
1 pineapple, peeled, quartered, cored and cut into 1 1/2-inch chunks
One 46-ounce can pineapple juice
3/4 cup sugar
Two 750-ml bottles dry white wine
2 cups tequila
1 cup fresh lime juice (about 10 limes)
1 cup orange juice
1 cup triple sec
1 liter club soda

  • Place half of the lime wedges and one-third of the pineapple chunks in a medium bowl. Mix 1/2 cup of the pineapple juice with 3/4 cup water and pour over the limes and pineapple chunks. Freeze until firm, about 4 hours.

Remove the pineapple-lime iceberg from the bowl and float in the punch. Add the remaining lime wedges and pineapple chunks. Pour in the club soda just before serving. Serve over ice in glasses.
  • Make ahead tip: This can be made the day before. Just add the limes, pineapple and the club soda right before serving.

SANGRITA (MEXICAN TEQUILA ACCOMPANIMENT)

Sangrita (Mexican Tequila Accompaniment) image

Sangrita is a popular beverage to drink with tequila. Not to be confused with "sangria," a fruit and wine concoction, this beverage is a tangy mixture of tomato and orange juices, usually spiked with hot chiles and lime juice. It may sound odd in flavor, but sangrita is the perfect accompaniment to good quality tequila, like an aged anejo or a good reposado. The tequila and sangrita are poured into separate shot glasses and the two are alternately sipped, not chased. First the tequila, then the chilled sangrita. Slowly, one after the other. (from Wikipedia definition) This is a spicy drink, if you are concerned about it being too hot, only add in half of the spicy ingredients. You can always add more later!
