CHEESE & FRUIT STICKS

Cheese & fruit sticks image

A firm favourite with children, these sticks are ready in seconds

Provided by Tony Tobin

Categories     Side dish, Snack

Time 5m

Yield As many as necessary

Number Of Ingredients 2

firm cheese
your childrens' favourite fruit eg grapes, apples, pears

Steps:

  • We sometimes forget how good the simple things are. This is an easy snack to rustle up and great for getting the kids to eat fruit. Just chop up your kids' favourite fruit and firm cheese and thread the pieces onto cocktail sticks or skewers. Tony's kids all like apples, pears and grapes and love cheddar, but feel free to try your own combinations.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh fruits: The fresher the fruits, the better they will taste. Look for fruits that are brightly colored and free of blemishes.
  • Use a variety of fruits: Don't be afraid to experiment with different combinations of fruits. The more variety you have, the more delicious your fruit stacked sticks will be.
  • Cut the fruits into uniform pieces: This will help them cook evenly. If you are using fruits that are different sizes, cut them into pieces that are about the same size.
  • Don't overcrowd the skewers: Leave some space between the pieces of fruit so that they can cook evenly. If you overcrowd the skewers, the fruit will steam and become mushy.
  • Cook the fruit stacked sticks over medium heat: This will help prevent them from burning. If you cook them over high heat, the fruit will brown too quickly and the inside will be raw.
  • Baste the fruit stacked sticks with melted butter or oil: This will help them stay moist and prevent them from sticking to the grill.
  • Serve the fruit stacked sticks immediately: They are best enjoyed hot off the grill.

Conclusion:

Fruit stacked sticks are a delicious and easy way to enjoy fresh fruit. They are perfect for parties, picnics, or a quick and healthy snack. With a little creativity, you can make fruit stacked sticks that are both beautiful and delicious. So next time you are looking for a fun and healthy way to enjoy fruit, give fruit stacked sticks a try.
