FRUITED RICE MIX

Fruited Rice Mix image

The way I came upon this mix is very fitting-a friend gave me a container of it as a gift one Christmas. The next year, I gave it to many friends, all dressed up in decorated mason jars. Every single one asked for the recipe! I learned to cook through trial and error. I've been doing it for 30 years...it's my favorite pastime. My husband and I live on a 50-acre farm, where we breed and race horses. We also raise chickens and lambs. Our six children are grown, and now we're the grandparents of eight youngsters.

Tips:

  • Choose the right rice: Long-grain rice, such as basmati or jasmine rice, works best for this recipe. It cooks up light and fluffy, and it absorbs the flavors of the fruit and spices well.
  • Cook the rice properly: Be sure to cook the rice according to the package directions. If you overcook it, it will become mushy and unpleasant.
  • Use fresh fruit: The fresher the fruit, the better the flavor of your rice mix will be. If you can, use fruit that is in season.
  • Add nuts and seeds for extra flavor and crunch: Nuts and seeds, such as almonds, walnuts, and sunflower seeds, add a nice flavor and texture to rice mixes. You can also add dried fruits, such as raisins or cranberries, for a sweet touch.
  • Experiment with different spices: There are many different spices that you can use to flavor your rice mix. Some popular choices include cumin, coriander, turmeric, and garam masala.

Conclusion:

Fruited rice mixes are a delicious and versatile dish that can be served as a side dish or a main course. They are easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With a little creativity, you can create a fruited rice mix that is sure to please everyone at your table.
