ASIAN/MARYLAND FUSION HARD CIDER SHRIMP
This was an experiment I tried for dinner one night, and it turned out incredibly well! It all started because I was craving shrimp scampi, but didn't have several of the necessary ingredients. Instead, I improvised. This is the result.

Steps:
- Combine 1/2 bottle of the cider and the rest of the ingredients (except the shrimp and the powdered hot pepper) in a gallon size sealable bag or marinating container, and mix well.
- Add shrimp to the marinade, and lay flat in refrigerator, marinating for about 15 minutes on each side.
- Pour the rest of the cider into a medium/large saucepan (one big enough to lay out all of the shrimp in a single layer) and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to medium, and add marinated shrimp, along with all of the marinade liquid. Spread shrimp out in a single layer. Sprinkle with half of the hot pepper, if you're using it.
- Saute shrimp for about 5-7 minutes per side, keeping it moving (but not allowing them to overlap - gently shaking the pan occasionally does the trick). The shrimp are done once they are pink throughout.
Tips:
- Mise en Place: Before you start cooking, make sure you have all the ingredients and equipment you need. Mise en place is a French term that means "put in place" and it's a good habit to get into when cooking any dish, not just fusion shrimp.
- Choose the Right Shrimp: Use large, fresh shrimp for the best results. You can use frozen shrimp, but make sure to thaw them completely before cooking.
- Marinate the Shrimp: Marinating the shrimp in a flavorful mixture of spices and herbs will help to add flavor and moisture to the dish.
- Cook the Shrimp Properly: Shrimp cooks quickly, so it's important to cook it just until it's opaque and pink. Overcooked shrimp will be tough and rubbery.
- Use Fresh Ingredients: The fresher the ingredients you use, the better your fusion shrimp will taste. If possible, use organic ingredients.
- Don't Be Afraid to Experiment: There are many different ways to make fusion shrimp. Don't be afraid to experiment with different ingredients and flavors until you find a combination that you love.
Conclusion:
Fusion shrimp is a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. It's a great way to add some variety to your weeknight dinner routine or to serve at a special occasion. With so many different recipes to choose from, you're sure to find one that you'll love. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy meal, give fusion shrimp a try. You won't be disappointed!
