This recipe is just another version of the same old recipe except that I've added garlic and cheese to give them some great flavor. If you prefer a sweeter taste omit the garlic and cheese and add 1 and 1/2 Tbsp. Sugar to batter. Enjoy!

Yield Makes 6 large or 9 medium popovers

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 large eggs
3/4 cup milk
1/4 cup water
1 cup minus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 large garlic clove
1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan (about 1 1/2 ounces)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°.F. Generously grease six 2/3-cup popover tins or nine 1/2-cup muffin tins.
  • In a bowl whisk together eggs, milk, and water. Add flour and whisk mixture until combined well but still slightly lumpy.
  • Mince garlic and mash with salt. Whisk garlic paste into batter and divide half of batter among tins. Sprinkle 1/4 cup Parmesan over batter in tins and divide remaining batter among tins. Sprinkle remaining 1/4 cup Parmesan over popovers and bake in lower third of oven 45 minutes. Cut a slit about 1/2 inch long on top of each popover with a small sharp knife and bake 10 minutes more. (Popovers will not rise much because of Parmesan).

Tips:

  • Make sure the oven is preheated before baking the popovers. This will help them rise properly.
  • Use a muffin tin that is at least 2 inches deep. This will give the popovers enough room to rise.
  • Don't overfill the muffin cups. The popovers should only be filled about halfway full.
  • Bake the popovers until they are golden brown and puffed up. This will take about 20-25 minutes.
  • Serve the popovers warm with your favorite toppings, such as butter, jam, or honey.

Conclusion:

Garlic cheese popovers are a delicious and easy-to-make breakfast, lunch, or dinner side dish. They are perfect for any occasion, from a casual family meal to a special holiday dinner. With their light and fluffy texture and cheesy, garlicky flavor, these popovers are sure to be a hit with everyone who tries them.
