APPLE GRANOLA CRISP

Apple Granola Crisp image

I have a bunch of granola and apples and I did not want to use all kinds of butter making an apple pie crust then an apple pie. So I found an Apple Crisp Recipe that I liked and I changed it to use up the granola I have. I have come up with this technique for making a soft granola apple crisp and now I can make a crisp using...

Time 1h5m

Number Of Ingredients 12

4 apples, i use 1 red, 1 golden, & 2 granny for this recipe
1/2 c white sugar
1/2 Tbsp flour
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 c water
1/2 c granola any flavor
1/2 c flour
1/2 c brown sugar
1/8 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp baking soda
1/4 c melted butter
3 Tbsp flour **use only if topping is not crumbly

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven 350 degrees and peel and core apples then slice into slices. Put into a stainless steel bowl.
  • 2. Mix in a bowl white sugar and 1 tbsp. flour and cinnamon together.
  • 3. Now add the granola and mix. Then add the water and mix again to get the granola wet so it can start absorbing the liquid.
  • 4. Add the granola mixture to the apples and mix thoroughly. Put into a 1 1/2 qt casserole dish.
  • 5. In another bowl Mix flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda and melted butter. Use your hand and mix it together to make a crumble topping that falls apart. **Note: You will need to add additional tbsps. of flour if it is not falling apart and is not crumbly. I had to add 3 more tablespoons of flour when making this recipe.***
  • 6. Sprinkle the mixture over the apple-granola mixture. Cover the entire area.
  • 7. Bake at 350 degrees. For 45 min or until desired tenderness.
  • 8. Tips: When using granola that contains nuts pick out the nuts and chop or mince them then add to the mixture. Mine contained Almonds and Walnuts. It all depends on how crunchy you want your apple granola crisp. I wanted a soft granola apple crisp so I also made the recipe different than a traditional crisp by adding the oats to the apples so they would soften up during cooking.
  • 9. Serve by itself or with vanilla ice cream. Enjoy! After making this I was impressed how the granola came out it was tender not hard or soggy. Since I like granola so much I am going to increase the amount to 1 cup. Plus some water. *Note there are different types of baked granola. I used crispy baked and that is a hard granola. There is also a soft baked granola and it is soft when you squeeze it in the bag. If I were to use the soft baked granola I would add it to the crumbled topping mixture and top the apples with that mixture when making the dessert.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of apples. This will give your crisp a more complex flavor and texture. Some good choices include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Braeburn apples.
  • Peel and core your apples before slicing them. This will help them to cook evenly and prevent the crisp from becoming too mushy.
  • Slice your apples thinly. This will help them to cook quickly and evenly.
  • Use a combination of oats and flour in your topping. This will give your crisp a crispy texture and help it to hold its shape.
  • Add some nuts or seeds to your topping. This will add some extra flavor and crunch.
  • Bake your crisp until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling. This will usually take about 30-35 minutes.
  • Serve your crisp warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Conclusion:

Granola apple crisp is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With its combination of sweet apples, crunchy oats, and a nutty topping, this crisp is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it. So next time you're looking for a simple but satisfying dessert, give this recipe a try. You won't be disappointed!
