GRANOLA BARS III

This is a perfect alternative to buying store bought granola bars. They are between chewy and crunchy. You can change up the dried fruit, nuts or replace with chocolate chips. I substitute 1/2 cup of the oats with old fashion oats.

Number Of Ingredients 12

2 c oats, quick cooking
1 c flour
1/2 c brown sugar
3/4 c raisins
1/2 c wheat germ
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 c chopped walnuts
1/2 c vegtable oil
1/2 c honey
1 egg
2 tsp vanilla

Steps:

  • 1. Line a 9x13 inch pan with parchment paper or nonstick foil and spray with cooking oil spray.
  • 2. Stir together ingredients and press into prepared pan.
  • 3. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. Cool slightly and cut into bars. Cool completely before removing to prevent them from falling apart. Enjoy.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of oats. Old-fashioned oats, quick-cooking oats, and steel-cut oats can all be used in granola bars. The type of oat you choose will affect the texture of your bars.
  • Don't overmix the dough. Overmixing will make the bars tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Press the dough firmly into the pan. This will help the bars hold together.
  • Bake the bars until they are golden brown. This will ensure that they are cooked through.
  • Let the bars cool completely before cutting them. This will help them hold their shape.
