Tips:

  • Choose the Right Salmon: Opt for wild-caught salmon fillets or steaks that are about 1-inch thick and have a vibrant color.
  • Make Your Own Teriyaki Sauce: For a more authentic flavor, try making your teriyaki sauce using soy sauce, mirin, sake, brown sugar, and ginger instead of store-bought sauce.
  • Marinate the Salmon: To infuse the salmon with flavor, marinate it in the teriyaki sauce for at least 30 minutes or up to overnight.
  • Grill Over Medium-High Heat: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 400-450°F) and cook the salmon skin-side down first.
  • Cook to the Right Temperature: To ensure perfectly cooked salmon, aim for an internal temperature of 145°F. You can check this using a meat thermometer.
  • Glaze the Salmon: During the last few minutes of cooking, brush the salmon with additional teriyaki sauce to create a glossy glaze.
  • Serve with Sides: Grilled teriyaki salmon pairs well with a variety of sides such as steamed rice, roasted vegetables, or a fresh salad.
