Steps:
- 1. In a large sauce pan, saute the onion in the butter until soft and translucent. Add the garlic and cook for about one minute, stirring, until fragrant. 2. Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir to combine. Cook over medium heat for one minute. 3. Slowly whisk in the milk and chicken broth. Cook, stirring constantly with a whisk, and bring the sauce to a simmer over medium. Add the salt and pepper. 4. Add the chicken and simmering, stirring the sauce frequently, until the sauce has thickened, about 5-8 minutes. 5. At this point if you want the sauce to thicken more, in a small bowl whisk together the 2 Tbsp flour and 2 Tbsp water until smooth, you don't want lumps. It should look like a paste. Drizzle a little of the flour mixture at a time while whisking into to sauce mixture until desired thickness is reached. I like it to be like a thick gravy. 6. Serve the sauce over steamed rice with desired toppings from the list below. Serves 4-6.
Tips:
- Choose the right kind of noodle. Any type of noodle can be used, but some are better suited for Hawaiian haystack recipes than others. Thicker noodles, such as macaroni or penne, hold up well to the other ingredients and won't get soggy. Thinner noodles, such as spaghetti or angel hair, can be used, but they may need to be cooked for a shorter amount of time.
- Don't overcook the noodles. The noodles should be cooked al dente, or slightly firm to the bite. This will help them hold their shape and prevent them from getting mushy.
- Use a variety of toppings. The possibilities are endless when it comes to toppings for Hawaiian haystack recipes. Some popular options include shredded chicken, ham, bacon, cheese, vegetables, and canned pineapple.
- Use a flavorful dressing. The dressing is what brings all the flavors of a Hawaiian haystack recipe together. A simple vinaigrette or mayonnaise-based dressing can be used, or you can get creative and try something different, such as a teriyaki-flavored dressing or a honey mustard dressing.
- Serve immediately. Hawaiian haystack recipes are best served immediately after they are assembled. This will help prevent the noodles from getting soggy and the toppings from wilting.
Conclusion:
Hawaiian haystack recipes are a delicious and easy-to-make meal that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. With a variety of toppings and dressings to choose from, there are endless possibilities when it comes to creating your own unique Hawaiian haystack recipe. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy meal, give Hawaiian haystacks a try. You won't be disappointed!
