HOBO PIE
My family has gone camping every summer since I was very young, and one of the things we always make at least once is a hobo pie. Made using bread and your choice of filling, hobo pies are quick, cheap, easy, fun, and very adaptable to everyone's needs! Hobo Pie irons are available at camping or outdoors stores.

Steps:
- 1. Brown hamburger until done, spoon from pan into doubled pie crust. In same pan fry onion till tranparent, spoon onto hamburger. Mix katchup unto the Pork and beans, pour it over the top of hamburger and onions, sprinkle some cheese on top. Bake about 35 to 45 minutes in a 400 oven until hot though and cheese is browned. Serves 4 by itself, but with a side of corn or peas, and salad it will feed 6.
- 2. This is a good one for hiding veggies on the kids, put some graded carrots, or zuccini in the hamburger. Chopped peppers go well in this also.
Tips:
- Choose the Right Bread: Select a sturdy bread that can hold the filling without getting soggy. Sourdough, French bread, or a hearty whole grain bread are all good options.
- Use Fresh Ingredients: The quality of your ingredients will greatly affect the taste of your hobo pie. Use fresh vegetables, herbs, and spices for the best flavor.
- Don't Overfill the Bread: Be careful not to overfill the bread, as this can make it difficult to close and seal properly. Leave some space at the top of the bread so that the filling has room to expand.
- Cook the Hobo Pie Over Medium Heat: Cooking the hobo pie over medium heat will help to prevent the bread from burning and ensure that the filling is cooked through.
- Serve the Hobo Pie Warm: Hobo pie is best served warm, so enjoy it as soon as it's cooked. You can also reheat it in the oven or microwave if desired.
Conclusion:
Hobo pie is a delicious and easy-to-make meal that's perfect for camping, picnics, or a quick weeknight dinner. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a hearty and satisfying meal that the whole family will enjoy. So next time you're looking for a fun and creative way to cook outdoors, give hobo pie a try!
