QUICK AND EASY BARBECUE RUB

Quick and Easy Barbecue Rub image

This rub is my personal recipe, settled on after lots of experimenting. It's great on ribs, brisket, and pork butt. Quick and easy from ingredients everyone usually has. This recipe makes enough for 2 to 3 full racks of baby back ribs, depending on how liberally you coat them. For those that are new to barbecuing/smoking, 'rub' is a misnomer, as you're really just coating the meat and not actually rubbing it in. Generally, I'll rinse and pat dry the meat I'm prepping then apply a thin coat of yellow mustard so that the rub sticks.

BARBECUE RUB

Barbecue Rub image

When I lived in Kansas City, Mo I worked in a Barbecue restaurant and this rub looked about like what we used there. That rub was out of this world. Update 4/21/05: Denise! asked what restaurant it was I worked at. I believe it was called Mr. G's and it was in Independence.

Time 5m

Yield 3 cups of rub

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 cups sugar
1/4 cup paprika
2 teaspoons chili powder
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 cup salt
2 teaspoons black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients and use as a rub for any barbecue meats.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ingredients: High-quality ingredients will make a big difference in the flavor of your rub. Use fresh herbs and spices, and avoid using pre-packaged blends that may contain fillers or additives.
  • Experiment with different flavors: There are endless possibilities when it comes to creating a BBQ rub. Try different combinations of herbs, spices, and other ingredients to find a flavor profile that you enjoy.
  • Use the right amount of rub: A little rub goes a long way. Apply just enough rub to coat the meat evenly, without overdoing it. Too much rub can overwhelm the flavor of the meat.
  • Let the rub do its thing: Once you've applied the rub, let it sit on the meat for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight. This will give the flavors time to penetrate the meat and develop.
  • Cook the meat properly: The best way to cook meat with a BBQ rub is over low heat. This will allow the rub to caramelize and develop its full flavor. Avoid cooking the meat over high heat, as this will burn the rub and ruin the flavor.

Conclusion:

Creating a delicious BBQ rub is easy and rewarding. By following these tips, you can create a rub that will enhance the flavor of your grilled meats and make your next barbecue a success.
