HOMEMADE BREAKFAST CEREAL

Homemade Breakfast Cereal image

Breakfast cereals are so expensive, I wanted to see if I could make my own. This is a variation of a recipe I found in a book called "More-with-less Cookbook". I've made granola before but this recipe is a little different. I haven't decided yet if I love it - just posting it here to check on the nutritional information.

Yield 6 cups, 12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup unsweetened flaked coconut
1 cup quick oats
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
2 tablespoons sunflower seeds
2 tablespoons pepitas
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup vegetable oil

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients well. Spread on a baking sheet and toast in 350 degree oven for about 45 minutes, stirring occasionally until browned.

Tips for Making the Best Homemade Breakfast Cereal

  • Choose the right ingredients. The type of flour, sweetener, and spices you use will greatly affect the flavor of your cereal. Experiment with different combinations to find what you like best.
  • Don't overmix the dough. Overmixing will make the cereal tough. Mix the dough just until it comes together.
  • Chill the dough before baking. This will help the cereal hold its shape and prevent it from becoming too crumbly.
  • Bake the cereal until it is golden brown. This will give it a crispy texture and nutty flavor.
  • Let the cereal cool completely before serving. This will help it to crisp up and become more flavorful.

Conclusion

Homemade breakfast cereal is a delicious and healthy way to start your day. It is also a great way to use up leftover ingredients. With a little planning and effort, you can easily make your own breakfast cereal that is just as good as, if not better than, store-bought brands. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy breakfast, give homemade breakfast cereal a try.
