OLD FASHIONED
The invention of the drink is frequently (and probably inaccurately) credited to a bartender at the Pendennis Club, in Louisville, Kentucky, who around the turn of the 20th century reportedly made the drink for Colonel James E. Pepper, a member of the club and by some accounts a prominent bourbon distiller.

Steps:
- In a sauce pan combine the brown sugar, white sugar and water. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat, stirring with a wooden spoon, then reduce the heat and cook just until the sugar is dissolved completely.
- Remove from heat. Add the cherries and muddle slightly with a wooden spoon or cocktail muddler.
- Add the oranges, and cinnamon sticks and cover, allowing the fruit and cinnamon sticks to steep until the mixture is completely cooled. I usually leave mine to sit on the stove-top for about 2 hours to bring it to room temperature. Note: You can steep longer if you have time. I've even steeped overnight and the flavor was even better.
- Strain the mixture to remove all fruit and cinnamon sticks.
- Stir in the bitters and pour into glass jars. Cover tightly and refrigerate until read to use.

Tips:
- Use fresh, high-quality ingredients: The better the ingredients, the better the mix will taste. Look for organic, non-GMO ingredients whenever possible.
- Measure your ingredients carefully: This is especially important for baking recipes. Even a small mistake in measurement can affect the final product.
- Follow the recipe instructions carefully: Don't skip any steps or ingredients, and make sure to mix everything together thoroughly.
- Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing can make the muffins or bread tough.
- Bake the muffins or bread at the correct temperature and for the correct amount of time: Check the recipe for the specific instructions.
- Let the muffins or bread cool completely before serving: This will help them to set and develop their full flavor.
