4h Winning White Bread (Non Bread Machine) image

I have made this bread for many years. The recipe comes from and old book, over 25 years ago, The cover has left the book, but I believe it was called Ohio State Fair 4H Winning Recipes or something like this. My SIL wanted a hand made bread recipe. I search along time though my cookbook collection to find it. Thought I would post it to perserve it. I haven't made it in a long long time. This was my go to recipe before the invention of bread machines. I will have to take the time to make it again soon. This recipe has never failed me.Most and so tasty..

Tips:

  • Ingredients at Room Temperature: For optimal results, make sure all your liquids and eggs are at room temperature before mixing them with other ingredients. This helps ensure even mixing and rising.
  • Measure Accurately: Use accurate measuring tools like a kitchen scale or measuring cups to ensure the correct proportions of ingredients. This is vital for achieving the right texture and consistency.
  • Kneading Process: Kneading develops the gluten in the dough, resulting in a strong and elastic structure. Knead the dough for at least 5-7 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Rising Time: Allow the dough sufficient time to rise and double in size. This usually takes about 1-2 hours in a warm place. Proper rising ensures a light and airy texture in your bread.
  • Baking Technique: Preheat your oven to the recommended temperature before baking. Place the bread in the center of the oven and bake for the specified time, or until the internal temperature reaches 190-200°F (88-93°C).
