Time 2h35m

Number Of Ingredients 12

HOT CHEESE PUPS
1 pkg active dry yeast
1/4 c warm water
1 c milk, scalded
1/4 c butter
2 Tbsp sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 egg
3 1/2 - 4 c all purpose flour
1 lb cheddar cheese or american
onion powder or finely chopped onion
butter

Steps:

  • 1. Skillet 325 degrees
  • 2. Soften yeast in warm water. Combine milk, butter, sugar, salt, and egg in mixing bowl. Cool to lukewarm. Add 1 cup flour; beat well. Stir in yeast. Add remainder of flour, stirring to form a stiff dough. Cover; let rise in warm place until light and doubled, about an hour. Roll out dough, half at a time, on floured surface to a 14x8 inch rectangle. Cut into 8 7x2 inch pieces. Cut your cheese into sticks about 6 inches long and 1/2 inch thick. Place one in center of each piece of dough. Sprinkle each with onion powder or 1/2 teaspoon finely chopped onion. Bring edges to center; pinch to seal. Seal ends. Place seam-side down on tray. Cover; let rise in warm place, about 30 minutes. Fry in heavily buttered skillet on medium heat (325-350) about 2 minutes on each side. Turn carefully to brown all sides. Add more butter as necessary. Serve hot.
  • 3. Tips: For variety, add crumpled crisp bacon with cheese. Or, fill with frankfurters instead or with the cheese. To reheat, place on ungreased cookie sheet. Place uncovered in 350 oven for 15 minutes. *If using self rising flour omit the salt.

Tips:

  • Choose the right hot dogs: Look for plump, juicy hot dogs that are made with high-quality meat. Avoid hot dogs that are overly processed or contain a lot of fillers.
  • Use a good quality cheese: The cheese is the star of the show in this recipe, so it's important to use a good quality cheese that melts well. Cheddar, mozzarella, and pepper jack are all good choices.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: When cooking the hot dogs, make sure to leave enough space between them so that they can cook evenly. If you overcrowd the pan, the hot dogs will steam instead of fry and they won't be as crispy.
  • Cook the hot dogs until they are golden brown: The hot dogs should be cooked until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside. This will ensure that they are cooked through and juicy on the inside.
  • Serve the hot dogs immediately: Hot dogs are best served immediately after they are cooked. This will ensure that they are hot and crispy. You can serve them with a variety of toppings, such as ketchup, mustard, relish, or sauerkraut.

Conclusion:

Hot cheese pups are a delicious and easy-to-make snack or meal. They are perfect for parties or potlucks, and they can also be enjoyed as a quick and easy lunch or dinner. With just a few simple ingredients, you can make a batch of hot cheese pups that will be sure to please everyone. So next time you're looking for a fun and tasty snack, give this recipe a try!
