HOT DOG STEW

Hot Dog Stew image

Years ago, I use to have a friend from New York. When we use to visit her mother in Brooklyn, she would make us hot dog stew. It was quite good and something got me wanting it the other day. Although I never got the recipe from her, I decided to make my own version. And here it is :)

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 7

4 c tomato juice (i used campbell's)
2 c chicken stock
1/2 c dark brown sugar
1 pkg hot dogs
1/2 box small round pasta, cooked
1 can(s) small white beans
1 Tbsp parsley flakes

Steps:

  • 1. Slice hot dogs into 1/4" pieces. Add one tablespoon or so of oil to a skillet. Cooked for about 3 minutes, or until just browned.
  • 2. Bring your tomato juice, chicken stock, and brown sugar to a boil. Add in your remaining ingredients. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes.
  • 3. Serve & enjoy!

Tips:

  • Choose the right type of hot dogs. Not all hot dogs are created equal. Some are better suited for stewing than others. Look for hot dogs that are made with a blend of beef and pork, and that have a good smoky flavor.
  • Brown the hot dogs before stewing them. This will help to develop their flavor and give them a nice caramelized crust.
  • Use a variety of vegetables in your stew. This will add flavor, texture, and nutrients to the dish. Some good options include potatoes, carrots, celery, onions, and corn.
  • Add some spices and herbs to your stew. This will help to give it a more complex flavor. Some good options include garlic, chili powder, cumin, and oregano.
  • Simmer the stew for at least 30 minutes. This will allow the flavors to meld together and the vegetables to become tender.
  • Serve the stew with a variety of toppings. This could include things like sour cream, shredded cheese, diced tomatoes, and chopped green onions.

Conclusion:

Hot dog stew is a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for a weeknight dinner. It is also a great way to use up leftover hot dogs. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a stew that is sure to please everyone at the table.
