Tips:

  • Trim the green beans: Before cooking, trim the ends of the green beans to remove any tough or stringy bits.
  • Use fresh green beans: For the best flavor and texture, use fresh green beans. If you're using frozen green beans, thaw them thoroughly before cooking.
  • Cook the green beans until they are tender: Green beans should be cooked until they are tender but still have a slight crunch. Overcooked green beans will be mushy and bland.
  • Make the roux ahead of time: The roux can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. This will save you time when you're ready to make the sauce.
  • Use a good quality vegetable broth: The vegetable broth you use will make a big difference in the flavor of the sauce. Use a broth that is flavorful and has a rich taste.
  • Add some sour cream or yogurt: For a richer and creamier sauce, add some sour cream or yogurt to the sauce. This will also help to balance out the acidity of the tomatoes.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs: Fresh herbs, such as parsley, chives, or dill, will add a pop of color and flavor to the dish.

Hungarian green beans with creamy roux onion sauce is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal. The green beans are tender and flavorful, and the creamy sauce is rich and flavorful. This dish is sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
