MINI HAM LOAVES

This is a family favorite. My aunt used to make them every Easter. The recipe comes from an old church cookbook. Whenever I order the meat from the meat market, I order ground ham and pork from a local meat market premixed. I order triple the meat required, packaged into three packages, give one to my mother, use one, and freeze one to use later. Serve these with horseradish.

Time 1h25m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 lb ground ham
1 lb ground pork
2 slices dried bread (crumbled)
1/2 cup milk
2 eggs
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup vinegar
1/3 cup water
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard

Steps:

  • Combine ham, pork, bread, milk and eggs.
  • Shape into six little loaves and place in baking pan.
  • Combine brown sugar, vinegar, water and dry mustard.
  • Pour over meatloaves.
  • Bake at 350 for 1 hour and 15 minutes, basting often with sauce.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ham: Select a quality ham steak that is at least 1 inch thick. Boneless ham is easier to work with, but you can also use bone-in ham if you prefer.
  • Grind the ham finely: This will help the meatloaf to hold together better. You can use a food processor or a meat grinder to grind the ham.
  • Use a variety of seasonings: Don't be afraid to experiment with different flavors. Some popular seasonings for ham loaf include brown sugar, mustard, garlic, onion, and herbs.
  • Don't overmix the meatloaf: Overmixing can make the meatloaf tough. Mix the ingredients just until they are combined.
  • Bake the meatloaf at a moderate temperature: This will help to prevent the meatloaf from drying out. The ideal temperature for baking ham loaf is 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Let the meatloaf rest before slicing: This will help the juices to redistribute throughout the meatloaf, making it more tender and flavorful.

Conclusion:

Ham loaf is a delicious and versatile dish that can be served for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It's also a great way to use up leftover ham. With so many different recipes to choose from, you're sure to find one that you'll love. So next time you're looking for a hearty and satisfying meal, give ham loaf a try.
